What do you fellow buzzed ones think of Beez' signings so far for the 2010-2011 season?
Here's a sample of what this Radke kid can bring to the ice, I like him already!

Looks promising. I think they are finally going for some size and toughness which has been sorely lacking. My concern this year is scoring, especially if we lose Bennefield and Rycroft.
Anyone hear anything on that front? _________________ Blog: puddinman.wordpress.com |

| Scoring hasn't been much of a problem for a Brooks coached team. Team defense has been and that is the area the Bees must improve on. If you look at the playoff teams lately the all have good team defense meaning the fowards/scorers have to be able to play D too. That and good goaltending is what the Bees will need to take the next step. |

From what I've heard, neither is coming back. I think we'll miss Rycroft, but I personally, will NOT miss Bennefield's performance from last season. He might have speed and can score, but has ZERO defensive skills. The signings so far have been fair and expected, but disappointing. How are we ever going to be able to compete with the likes of the Jacks, Rush and Allen? These teams have added great talent to their already stacked rosters. What I don't understand is why haven't we picked up a couple of more "impact" players. Two teams folded, the CHL and IHL merged adding 5 teams and the only ones making the better signings are the top teams. I hate to be a pessimistic wheasel, but it seems to me, that come March, we'll be struggling for the last playoff spot. AGAIN!!! _________________ SPEAK SOFTLY, BUT CARRY A BIG STICK! |

| Well it looks to me they Bees have already upgraded in the defense and toughness side of things. And most of those impact signings you speak of on the other teams are returning players. This being Brooks' third year the pressure is really on him to ice a competitive team. He should know the league and the type player it will take to be successful so no excuses anymore.Be patient and don't get too worked up until all the signings are in. I have to say you guys could of had Hughes as coach two seasons ago.I wonder what if? One thing for sure the Bees would had beaten Laredo a lot! |

Arob, I won't disagree with you that they've made an improvement on the defensive end from last season. They've also gotten a bit tougher with the addition of Powell and the rookie forward but I still don't think that is enough. They play a combined 46 games between Laredo, Texas, Allen, Oddessa, and the Mudbugs. This is, in my opinion, a MONUMENTAL task. It's simple math. If we were to give them the bennefit of winning at least half of these games, and half of the remaining 20 games, it would give them a total of 33 wins or 66 points. Add to this about 5 OTLs and we end up with about 71 points. This would put us on or around the last playoff spot. Bottom line, they need to sign some good talent. They've done ok so far, but they need a lot more of it. I know this is all trash talk on my part especially since the season is still far from starting, but I would love to be wrong about all this and for someone to dig up this post in March and shove it in my face. _________________ SPEAK SOFTLY, BUT CARRY A BIG STICK! |

I don't really disagree with you at all KILRBEES but it's still very early in the signing period. As I understand things we have quite a few players already signed up but they'll trickle the names out over the rest of the off-season. I heard there might be one or two "impact" signings, but I don't know for sure. I think it's an excellent sign that Brooks is picking up some toughness to go along with his eye for talented young forwards. Maybe he learned something from last season -namely that talent and past performance isn't enough; the player has to be willing to work hard every game. I'm hoping this year we get some hybrid of the talent of last season and the hard working ethic of his first season. If we get that, we could be very hard to beat. _________________ Blog: puddinman.wordpress.com |

| One thing is for sure, if you bring back a bunch of the same players from last season, you're going to end up in the same place. It doesn't a rocket scientist to figure that out. If you get at least two good players on each line that produces, then you have a chance. Same thing for the Bucks. If they bring back the same players from last season, they'll end up looking up, once again. |

| motown is 100% right. And it is going to be a very tough schedule. But the schedule is going to tough on everyone. The goal is to get to the playoffs. How you got there doesn't matter. The key is to be playing your best hockey late in the season. Things happen throughout the season that can make your team stronger and with only one team not making it there is more time than ever to adjust.I really hate to say this and I'm not saying Brooks is a bad coach but there are a ton of experienced coaches in this conference with a ton more connections than he has. This may be the reason he has trouble getting "impact" players. If he has learned things along the way this may be his breakout season. If not ..well. |

KILLER BEES ADD MORE BLUELINE SIZE
HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that defensemen Rob Cowan (COW –an) and Kirk Medernach (MED-er-nock) have signed with the team for the 2010-11 season.
Cowan, 26, enters his third full pro season after playing from 2007-10 as a member of the defunct Port Huron Icehawks (International Hockey League). The 6-foot-4, 215-pound defender appeared in 59 games last season and posted nine points (1-8-9) and 98 penalty minutes (PIM).
“The organization speaks for itself,” Cowan said. “Talking to Chris and guys around the CHL, I can tell it’s a great place to play. I’m excited to be a part of it.”
"Rob Cowan is a natural leader, great teammate, and prototypical team guy,” Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. “His college coach, Derek Schooley at Robert Morris, and Stan Drulia, who coached him in Port Huron, both rave about his character and dedication. Rob adds size and grit to our blueline."
Cowan initially joined Port Huron near the end of the 2007-08 season. The Calgary, Alberta, native finished his collegiate career at Robert Morris University with 21 points (1-20-21) and 147 PIM in 123 contests. He was the first-ever captain at upstart Robert Morris in his freshman season and co-captained the team his final three seasons.
Medernach, 25, returns to RGV after finishing out the 2009-10 season with the Killer Bees. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound defenseman played in a total of 50 games last season, posting eight points (1-7- and 90 PIM.
“Kirk brings size, grit, toughness and passion to our blueline,” Brooks said. “He aspires to play at the highest level he can possibly play at. I look forward to helping him develop, chase his dreams and bring a championship to Rio Grande Valley.”
The rugged blueliner played four seasons at Mercyhurst College and appeared in 128 games for the Lakers, posting 29 points (4-25-29) and 272 penalty minutes. During 2007-08, he led the school in plus/minus at plus-14. He also captained the team for two seasons (2007-08, 2008-09).
“I’m looking forward to a solid year,” Medernach said. “I think we’ve got the pieces in place to have a great season and I can’t wait to get going.”
That's what I'm talking about!!!
Maybee I'll make some more comments and see what happens. _________________ SPEAK SOFTLY, BUT CARRY A BIG STICK! |
