| Where did the season go? Were you guys and dolls excited about this past season? I have to say that the enthusiasm from seasons past (as a fan) was just not there for me this season. The Bucks made a good showing against the good (not great) Allen Americans team and took them to 7 games. At the end, a few Bees fans were about to become Bucks fans for a couple of games, but I guess no one on the Bucks team knows how to perform the Heimlich Maneuver and they managed to choke when they almost had it in the bag. Now Allen is in the same spot against Hodessa. |

So the logic here is : I was bad this year, but you were bad in years past, so I feel better about myself by comparison?
Reality checks work for me, too.

About 20 years or so ago, I'd say that the Valley was a beautiful place to visit and live there. Now, the Valley is a mirror of Laredo, and most border cities. We both have crime, drugs, killings, dirty politicians (less in Laredo) traffic, beautiful neighborhoods, barrios, scum, you name it. I'll give you the following over Laredo. You have more people, golf courses, hospitals and palm trees.
Why is it that "some" of you insist on attacking the city we live in? Look in the mirror and see what you have.
I've lived in many cities and each has their good and bad. Madera and Fresno California, Toledo Ohio, Detroit Michigan, Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin, St. Paul Minnesota, Cotulla Texas, they all have good and bad. How many times have you read any of my posts, dogging the Valley? I don't even remember "Bobcat" going there either. I say it's what you make of yourself that counts.
I can see smacking about hockey, the players, the teams, the coaches and each other. I have ethics that I normally stick to. I never attack the handicapped (even though someone thinks so) be it mental or physical, someone's gender, sexual preferences, our cities, jobs and respect all the ladies. I do have extreme peeves. I can't stand child molesters, bullies, people that eat with their mouth open and crunch out loud and drunks at hockey games. Other than that, I'm pretty much like everyone who loves their own city. I love Laredo as much as you love the city you live in. |

I've made my feelings known before. I've lived both places for extended periods of time. I could never live in Laredo again. They don't even have a bookstore anymore for Jimminy's sake (not that B. Daltons was all that great). Nowhere good to eat, no fun, no beach. Bleh. But if you love it, then I'm happy for you.
Some people love Laredo, just like some people love wrestling. Don't make no damn sense to me, but there it is. _________________ Blog: puddinman.wordpress.com |

When the Bees Lost last year in the playoffs, it was , unlike the Bucks this year, in their second series, not the first. Also, they were ousted by the team that eventually became league champs. Again, unlike the Bees Laredo was ousted by an EXPANSION team - Allen may yet win the cup and take away some of the sting of that embarrassing loss.
I've noticed that at the mere mention of the word"Laredo", certain of their apologists spring to its defense, whether there was an attack, or not.
I wasn't criticizing L for having lost in its first series, merely pointing out the fact to those who might find it of interest. Oh, the L guys don't answer any critique, but only counterattact with unearthed facts - they seem to go around with a statistic book in their hip pockets.

I could SOOOOO easily stoop down and point out low points in the Valley, but I won't. Whats the point? Where's the reasoning? I just don't see it. You guys keep on trucking.
Hey puddin, I've been to the Valley many, MANY times and don't remember ever seeing a "beach". Unless all the land fell off into the ocean east of 281, I don't remember seeing an ocean by McAllen, Mission, Pharr, Edinburg, or even Harlingen.
The only place that I've been to and can say that it was an absolute dump is the BIG EASY also known as Narleans. That place is a dump and I'll say it's a dump, but I'm sure there is "good" there, I just haven't seen it. But they do have a beach............ |

No, Mo, McAllen, Harlingen, et. al. do not have beaches. But the Valley does. South Padre Island is a mere 1 hour drive from my home. Close enough for a day trip, which I am happily doing this weekend. Laredo, unfortunately, is landlocked and desolate; the only water around is the man-made cesspool they call a lake.
Many thousands of years ago, volcanic action and the resultant plate tectonics caused a break up of the massive continent known as Pangea. One of the fortunate consequences of those ancient cataclysmic events was that, indeed, all of the land east of Hwy 281 gently and gradually slopes away into beautiful ocean. The Valley does not end at 281, contrary to what Laredoans believe. Keep driving on 83 another hour or so, turn off at Hwy 100 and soon you'll be at South Padre Island, gateway to the Laguna Madre and all the beaches, fishing and other activities you could ever want.
I can't believe you didn't know it was there. See, you learn something new every day! _________________ Blog: puddinman.wordpress.com |

I know all that area. My wife and I drive down there at least 6 times a year. I have no yen in wanting to get in the salt water. I prefer to stay at a motel and go swimming in a pool. I was there a couple of days before the barge hit the bridge and the cars went in the water. Normally I stay on the main roads, but I prefer to drive on the farm roads and country roads and take my time to view the country. I've even driven to Tampico a few hours south of Matamoros. Try Country Rd. 106, 507, 498, 510, 2925 or even Hi-way 77 just for the heck of it. By wife was born in Lyford, so I know the Valley.
By the way, Baffin Bay is only 1 hour away from Laredo, but I only go there to eat. You can have the beach. |
